Salt Marsh Design
Salt Marsh Design and Construction is typically required as compensation for marine construction projects that result in Harmful Alteration, Desruption, or Destruction (HADD) of fish habitat. Balanced Environmental has designed several salt marshes approved by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) for marinas, developers, municipalities, and government agencies from the Lower Mainland to the Queen Charlottes. Our 25 years of experience has made Balanced Environmental the leading consulting company in salt marsh design in British Columbia.
Habitat credits obtained from each salt marsh vary from project to project. Proponents can expect to receive anywhere from 1:2 to 6:1 for salt marsh.
The cost to construct a salt marsh varies considerably with the amount of site preparation require, the cost of local contractors, the availability of materials, and the desired planting density. Typically salt marshes cost between $42/sq.m to $130/sq.m.
