Navigable Waters Approval - Transport Canada
A navigable water is any waterbody that can be travelled by a canoe or large vessel. Any construction within a navigable water of any size requires approval from Transport Canada under the Navigable Waters Protection Act (NWPA).
Typically projects that do not obstruct the main channel are approved. A site visit is generally required followed by a few days of reporting depending on the level of complexity of the project.
